January 10 Newsletter

Mrs. Bali’s First Grade News
January 10, 2020

Review of our week:
In math this week we started on place value.  In our reading we started on a new reader.  It is all informational text about different animals.  We wrote some New Year Resolutions.  I have been really happy with the progress we are making in reading.  Almost everyone has moved up a level. If your child is reading on a J or higher, they won’t move levels in their take home book as often.

Book Orders:
I am sending home the January Book Orders.  If you would like to order books, please return your order by Friday, January 17.  There is a link at the bottom of my email.

F.Y.I’s
*If you would like to do a Family Fun Day, please look at the dates and let me know if there is one that would work for you.

*For this time of year your child needs to be on a F-G instructional reading level to be on track for being on grade level for the end of the year.  That means their take home books would be E-F.  Reading for the 20 minutes every night will make the biggest difference.

December 6 Newsletter

Mrs. Bali’s First Grade News
December 6, 2019

Review of our week:
In math we  are working on related facts.  We have been doing some fun Christmas things.   We read a book called Santa’s Stuck and wrote how we would help him get out. We also made a countdown to Christmas and wrote about being a helper for Santa.

Homework:
I know this time of year is very busy.  Remember to have your child keep reading.  Please encourage your child to fill out a tree right after they are finished reading, so you don’t have to try and remember at the end of the month how many days they read.   I have attached the reading record.  I am sorry it, is so late.

Cold Weather:
Now that the weather is getting colder, please make sure your child is coming with a coat.  We go out to recess unless it is raining, snowing or below freezing.  Also, when there is snow they need to have snow boots on to go out in the snow.  If they don’t, they will have to stay on the blacktop.

Gingerbread Houses:
We will be making our gingerbread houses on Friday, December 13 at 2:00.  You are all welcome to come.  It is nice to have  helpers.  We usually need some help with the frosting.  If you would like to send a thing of white frosting (we need 7-8) or a bag of candy to decorate with, that would be great.  If you can send it by Wednesday, December 11, that will be very helpful, that way I will know what I will need to get.
