Review of our week:

We have been doing some more fun Christmas things. We read Santa’s Stuck and wrote how we would help him get out, we also wrote letters to Santa. Santa even came to visit our class on Wednesday. Next week we are going to fill out an application to be one of Santa’s Elves, talk about Christmas in Australia (which is in the summer), made gingerbread men. In math we are working on related facts. We will finish the chapter before Christmas break.

Reading:

I know this time of year gets really busy, but it is so important that you make sure your child keeps reading the next couple of weeks. I really need you as parents to help your child with their reading, so they can make the progress they need to. At this point they should be doing most of that 20 minutes of reading. If you would like some extra books for your child to read on their independent reading level, please let me know.

I just wanted to thank all of you for everything you do for our class and me. I won’t be sending home a newsletter next week, so I hope you all have a Merry Christmas. Thanks to all the parents who helped with gingerbread houses and sent things to decorate them.

Review of our week:

We have been doing some fun Christmas things. In math we took Chapter 4 test and started Chapter 5. We are working on related facts. We made chains for the 70^th day of school to decorate our classroom. We also made a countdown to Christmas.

Homework:

I know this time of year is very busy. Remember to have your child keep reading. Please encourage your child to fill out a tree right after they are finished reading, so you don’t have to try and remember at the end of the month how many days they read.

Book Orders:

I am sending home the December Book Orders. There are some really fun books. If you would like to order some for Christmas, please let me know and I will keep them for you. The orders are due by Friday, December 8. You can also order online. If your child has a birthday or half birthday in January I am sending home paper about them getting a book for their birthday. I have several students who did not bring their birthday paper back. If your child has had a birthday and you didn’t send back the orange paper, please do so and I will order their book.

Cold Weather:

Now that the weather is getting colder, please make sure your child is coming with a coat. We go out to recess unless it is raining, snowing or below freezing. Also, when there is snow they need to have snow boots on to go out in the snow. If they don’t, they will have to stay on the blacktop.

Gingerbread Houses:

We will be making our gingerbread houses on Friday, December 7 at 2:00. You are all welcome to come. It is nice to have some helpers. We usually need some help with the frosting. If you would like to send a thing of white frosting or a bag of candy to decorate with, that would be great. Thank you to those of you who have already sent some stuff. If you can send it by Thursday, December 6, that will be great. That way I will know what I will need to get.
