Review of our week:
We had a lot of fun at the pumpkin patch.  It was great to have so many parents there with us.  We have been working on adding 3 numbers in math.  In CKLA, we have been working on long vowel sounds. We had a lot of fun at our party.  Thanks for everyone being willing to send money for the pizza and the treats.

Field Trip:
We have an opportunity to go to SUU and see the SUU Theatre Dept perform Frog & Toad on Tuesday, November 5th at 10am. We will be walking to SUU, so you will want to make sure your child wears good shoes and brings a jacket that day.  The tickets do cost $2.  I am sorry, I feel like I keep asking you for money.  It is a really great experience for our kids.   I have included a permission slip.

Red Ribbon Week:
Next week is Red Ribbon Week. Our wonderful PTA has some really great things planned.  They will be sending home a pledge for you to fill out with your child.  Everyone who brings their pledge back will get a certificate for a free Crumble Cookie.  We get to dress up for Halloween as one of the days this year.   There will also be a Halloween Parade. Please look at the attached red sheet for the rules.

Monday - Get Bandanas and pledges
Tuesday - Crazy socks and mismatched clothes
Wednesday - Sports team jersey or an SUU shirt
Thursday - Halloween costumes and or Crazy hair
      Friday - Pajama Day

Veterans:
I would like each child to find out if they have any Veterans in their family.  If they do, I would like them to find out any information and find pictures.  If you could send things that we can keep, at least for a little while that would be great. If you can make a copy of the picture, so that we can keep it, that would be the best.  If it is something that your child can just bring for the day and share, we would love to see it.  Part of our First Grade core is American Symbols, so we are going to be really focusing on patriotism.  If you could send them sometime in the next couple of weeks, that would be great.

October 18 Newsletter

Mrs. Bali’s Firsts Grade News
October 18, 2019

Review of our week:
In math we are really working on doubles, doubles plus one and adding to a ten.  I have been seeing a lot of progress in reading.  I am very happy about that.  We are almost  finished with our unit on Fairy tales from other lands.  We have a student from SUU coming and do a dance integration with this unit. We also got to go and watch fifth grade let their volcanoes off.

Carving Pumpkins:
I only have 3 dads coming to carve pumpkins.  I would really like to have 3 more if I can.  It will be on Thursday, October 31 @ 10:30.  If you can come and help, please let me know.  Thanks!!

Reading:
At this point I want your child to be doing the reading for all of, or most of the time, instead of having somebody read to them.  It is great if you are reading to them on top of their 20 minutes and I would like you to continue with that, but they really need to be doing their 20 minutes of reading themselves.  Reading to them will help make them better readers also.
When your child is reading to you please listen to the way they are reading.  We are really working on fluency and expression especially if your child is on a level F or higher.  We talk about how when you are reading it should sound like you are talking and not like a robot.  Please listen to your child and help them work on these things.  This is one of the reasons they should be reading their take home books at least 2 or 3 times. If your child is reading on a g or higher, they only need to read it 1-2 times.  I would also like them to be reading the sight word lists. If you would like some more books for your child to read at home, please let me know.

F.Y.I’s:
         * I just wanted to thank all of you who come in and help in                our classroom it really means a lot.
·      I will be sending home some addition flashcards.  It will really help them in math if they can learn these math facts.
