Review of our week:
I can’t believe how fast this year has gone. In math we working on 3-D Shapes.  I have also been doing some benchmarks with reading levels. We are starting some fun writing pieces, that you will love when your child brings home their portfolio at the end of the year.

DIBELS:
We will be doing our DIBELS testing Thursday morning.  I would appreciate it if you would make sure child does their reading this week. I sent home some non-sense word pages it would be great if you could have your child practice those.  We have made so much progress this year. I really want it to show on their scores.  We will do a final reading level assessment closer to the end of the year.  Thank you for working so hard with your child at home.  It has really paid off.

Kite Flight for Reading:
The Kite Festival is Saturday.  We sent home a paper for you to keep track of your child’s minutes on. If your child turns this in, they will receive some great prizes and the school earns money. If you can’t make it please send it with someone who is going.

Animal Reports:
I will be assigning each student an animal to do an oral report on.  All of the information is in their folders.  Please check the paper in your child’s backpack, so you will know when your child is scheduled to do their report and what animal. Please use the questions as a guide, but write it in paragraph form.  If you have any questions please let me know.  You are welcome to come and watch.

Library Books:
Tomorrow will be the last day to check out library books.  They will all be due back Tuesday, May 1.  If you have lost them Mrs. Stucki will send home a paper for how much it will cost to replace them.

Volunteers Needed:
I know there is a lot going on in the next month or so, but we have some fun things going and we really need some parents to come and help.
I need 1-2 parents to come and go on the field trip with us.  It will be on Wednesday, May 9. We are going to the library, Ladybug Nursery and Discovery Park. Depending on how much room there is on the bus, you may need to drive.
I also need either 1 parent all day for field day or 1 parent in the morning and 1 in the afternoon to take our class around.  Field Day is on Tuesday, May 21.
On the field trip your child will need to each school lunch.  If your child usually eats home lunch, you need to pay the office for their lunch for this day.

****** On both of these days, please make sure your child has sunscreen on and has a jacket just in case.  Thanks

First Grade Music Program:
The First grade classes will start practicing a program that we are going to perform in the gym on Monday, May 21 at 2:00.  We would love to see all of you there.  Please have your child wear their nice school clothes.

Mrs. Bali’s First Grade News

Review of our week:
In math, we are working on graphing.    We are learning about our Earth and the different kinds of rocks.  I need everyone to go on a rock hunt and find a rock to bring to class.  It has to fit in your hand and be a new rock they have found, not something from a collection they have.  We read a really fun book about the rules for going on a rock hunt.  Please, have your child bring their rock on Monday if they have not already brought it.  We will keep them for a week or so.

FYI:
We will start putting class lists together.  If you know your child is not going to be at our school next year please let me know and I will let the office know.  Thanks
