Mrs. Bali’s First Grade News

Review of our week:

         In math we have been working double facts.  I sent home a couple of games and a Doubles Rap that you can help your child learn these math facts.  I will send home flashcards next week.  We made some fun ghost pictures. I just wanted to thank all of you for your help and support.  I really do appreciate it. You are all so wonderful.

Field Trip:

         We are going to the Robinson Family Pumpkin Patch on Wednesday, October 24.  I am sending home a permission slip.  They ask for $1 to pay for the pumpkin your child will get to pick. It is due by next Wednesday.  If you would like to come with us, we would love to have you meet us there.  There won’t be room on the bus.  If you have any questions, please let me know.

Sight Words:

         I have a lot of students who have not brought their paper back saying they are ready to pass them off.  This is holding your child back from moving on in their reading.  I really need you to practice those words with your child.  If you don’t know where the list is please let me know and I can get you a new one.

Carving Pumpkins:

      I have 8 dads (Keith, Jared, Whitney, Dustyn, Jaren, Mike, Brett, Trevor). If I missed anyone or if there are others who would like to come in, please let me know. I just want to make sure I have enough pumpkins for the dads. We will do it on Halloween at 10:30. Thanks

Progress Reports:

·      I am sending home Progress Reports next week.  There are not a lot of things marked for this quarter.  It doesn’t mean your child can’t do those things, I just haven’t assessed it yet.  On the counting if they were able to count by 1’s to 120 I circled 1’s. If they were not able to do it, I wrote at the bottom what number they were able to count to. Please look over this

Review of our Week:

         In math we have been working on taking apart, taking from and subtraction in story problems. In our reading program, we have started reading stories.  We will finish our interviews on Monday. I will have the pages your child wrote put together in a book at SEPs.  I am very impressed with the writing abilities of each of the students.  In Social Studies we are learning about our community. We wrote about what we want to be when we grow up.

         We got a new student from China.  We are so excited to have her in our class.

SEP’s:

         I am sending home a paper that tells you when your SEP is.  I need you to sign it and mark if you can make your appointment or not.  If you can’t make it please let me know as soon as possible, so I can reschedule it.  We coordinated with other teachers, so please try to make your appointment.  Remember school gets out everyday at 2:30, even on Wednesday.

Homework:

         It is very important that your child is doing their reading for 20 minutes every night. I really need you taking the time to listen to your child read.  I have several who have already moved up a level and several who will be ready to move up a level with in the next couple of weeks.  I can tell they are reading at home.  As I start reading with each child next week, I will be able to see who else is ready to move.

         I just wanted to let you know, you don’t have to turn your child’s math packet in.  I am not grading it for homework.  You can turn them in, but you don’t have to.  I just wanted to send them home as some extra practice, if you wanted to have your child do it.  It has helped review and pre-teach some of these math concepts. I will do this with each chapter.

Snacks:

We are almost finished with snacks and we won’t be doing them after next week. If your child would like to bring their own healthy snack to eat at first recess, they can.  Please, don’t send candy.

FYI’s:

* I just wanted to thank you all for sending the snacks when your    child was the leader. Please make sure your child is getting a good breakfast.
