Review
of our week:
This
year the district adopted the math program Go Math for every school. This is the first time I have had a math
program to teach from. I am still trying
to get used to it. We have been learning
about adding to, or using pictures to showing adding. In our alphabet review, we learn a new poem
each day for the letter of the day and do a handwriting page. We also interview our leader and each child writes
a sentence about that person and draws a picture. I have already seen an improvement in many
areas since we started.
We
are also talking about our neighborhoods and our community. In art they are making a mural of our
community. I have attached a couple of
pages of homework about our community.
Book Orders:
I
will be doing a book order every month.
These are a great way to get good books for your child, which are not
very expensive. If you would like to
order books please have your order returned by Thursday, September 5. You
can write one check to Scholastic for all your orders, if you ordering from
more than one club. You can also go
online and order, which is really easy.
The code for our class is L9GWX.
There is a link at the end of my email.
If you have any questions please let me know.
Reading:
I
have started testing to see what reading level your child is on. In a couple of weeks we will be sending home
a book each night on your child’s independent reading level. Our reading homework starts on MONDAY. Your child needs to be reading for 20 minutes
each night. Remember for now part of the
20 minutes can be you reading to them.
We learned how to read the pictures this week. I would like your child to read the pictures
to you and then have you read the words to them. I have a lot of really great
prizes for those students who meet the reading goal. I really need you to help your child with
their reading homework every night.
I am sending home the first reading record.
They only need to read for 5 nights, but there are 7 on the reading
record. Reading records will always be
due on Friday, unless we are gone.
FYI:
*
School starts at 8:50 please make sure your child is here before that time.
They have bell work to do everyday.
They have having a lot of children checking into the office, because
they are late.

Here
is the list for snacks. Please send
approximately 24 snacks beginning with the letter next to your child’s name, or
just a good healthy snack. If you are
unable to do this please let me know. If
there are any leftover snacks I usually keep them and then we can have a couple
of extra days of snacks at the end of our review. If you want the extras to come home just let
me know. Please, don’t send anything with nuts or peanut butter. Thanks so much!
